You’d Prefer an Astronaut….

But if not, maybe you will take Hum – the hard-rocking, science/outer space obsessed band with a feedback heavy sound.   If spacey rock numbers could be beautiful and drone filled at the same time, this trio, originally out of central IL, might still be the best ones to do it – and they haven’t concocted an album since 1998.  Before that though, Howard Stern fell for them…hard. Since their album Downward Is Heavenward, they have played live only a handful of times, including in 2005 at their former stomping grounds: Champaign, IL.
If you’ve been watching TV lately, there is no doubt your ears have perked up when you heard that churning guitar riff from “Stars”.  Thanks to this 21st century exposure, we are blessed to have Hum back together again to welcome in 2009.  They are playing Chicago’s Double Door on 12/31. Give a listen below to “Dreamboat “ off of Downward is Heavenward and check their 120 Minutes performance of “I’d Like Your Hair Long” from 95’s You’d Prefer an Astronaut.

Excellent Stern link, dude. They brought it in that tiny studio. Too bad they didn’t ask John Oates* to sing along with them.

    * Can you name the John Oates look-alike?
