Gotta Start Strong…

Bands were selected to participate based on open submissions of their music. Only the music mattered. Deep Elm has never attempted to define any musical style, as we believe any combination of songwriting, lyrics and live performance means something different to every listener. We have only intended to share with you the music that moves us and support these bands…it’s what we do.

I don’t even know what the word emo means anymore. Didn’t it become more played out and confusing than the word indie? Regardless of its positive or negative connotations, Deep Elm records, an independent and artist friendly label, originally out of NYC, but now out of North Carolina, started something special. Beginning way back in ’97 – yes, 12 years ago – they began releasing truly original compilations entitled The Emo Diaries. These were not samplers. Nothing rehashed here. All new and original tracks.

And back then, if an act you like, maybe even favorited, had an exclusive track, you shelled out for the release. I remember dialing a New York specific phone number and placing an order with Deep Elm. Just like the word emo, when was the last time you used your hard line to place an order – especially for music? Interpret this as the way it is meant to sound; nothing more.

Continuing in the loud and chugging guitar state of Wes Kidd produced  Static Prevails, Jimmy Eat World start you out right…

And the real reason this album was purchased: a Triple Fast Action exclusive cut. What some hailed as the most underrated band of the 90’s, and I agree wholeheartedly. Experience a glimpse below…
