Maps Did Give Us A Heads Up…

Stepping out of one’s safe zone is what makes us grow. We learn from it; challenge ourselves; maybe discover a whole new side to things; maybe even find out what we never would imagined we’re capable of. With artists I love, and the sound they’ve created for themselves, there is a selfish side of me that wants them to never leave their aural safety net. Take Maps, for instance, a creator of an epic sound and record in 2007. Every time a track spins on, I wonder why everyone doesn’t love his drowned in sound vibe. A spacey synth sound that I see going down as a timeless record. One you can casually lose yourself in. Though now, Maps is upping the ante on his former close your eyes and imagine yourself surrounded by the stars self.

James Chapman, A.K.A. Maps, did mention some time back that he’s making “psychetronica” for his next record. Like you, maybe, I don’t know what that means. It sounds hard hitting, at least. He’s unleashed his new persona on us in rave form. “Let Go Of The Fear” is a drop a pill, Faithless “Insomnia” vibe, with elements of trance, a la DJ Tiesto. But with an album as fuckin’ epic as We Can Create, I’m willing to pull out my glow sticks, even if they lost their radiating shine in ’99.
